Fluid Analysis

Routine sampling unveils potential problems

  • Fluid contamination is the source of over 70% of
    mechanical failures
  • Pinpoint minor problems and avoid major failures
  • Fluid analysis records prove your crane has been
    maintained, increasing resale value

Why Sample Fluids?
You provide blood samples to your doctor now and then to detect possible health problems. Similarly, an analysis of fluid samples from your crane will provide the same type of health report for your equipment.

With a consistent fluid analysis program, fluids are taken periodically from several areas in your crane and are analyzed by our Manitowoc accredited laboratory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany to determine the levels of contaminants in each fluid. The level of each contaminant is compared to normal wear rates, so that potential problems with any of the components can be identified before failure. The trends over time for the contaminant levels also give valuable information on potential problems.

Sampling Kits
Sampling kits are available from Manitowoc. Follow the instructions to sample fluids from various compartments in your crane and return the bottles to us for laboratory analysis. We will provide an analysis of the contaminants present in each sample submitted, along with components that require investigation, based on the contaminant levels.

Sampling Tips

  • Oil should be close to operating temperature when sampled.
  • Container should be clean.
  • Mark the machine and compartment on each label as you
    obtain samples.
  • Maintain a schedule and a consistent routine for oil sampling.
