A new mobile crane, launched by Manitowoc in early 2009, will be shown at the bauma 2010 exhibition.
According to Frans Vanwinkel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Manitowoc in EMEA, the GCK3045 is a true innovation for the mobile crane industry.
“Presenting this crane demonstrates the commitment to innovation we have at Manitowoc,” he said. “But what’s most pleasing about this new crane is that it offers something different to help customers attain a competitive advantage. Attention to detail in every aspect of its design opens up new work possibilities and offers real-time cost savings.”
Grove GCK3045
The GCK3045 is Manitowoc’s first mobile city crane and combines
a single cab with a “boom down” design for extremely compact dimensions. At 9.07 m long, 3 m tall and 2.55 m wide, the crane gives access to even the tightest job sites. For narrow environments, the crane has five outrigger settings and an innovative 6.3 m/10.2 m twist jib that can be rigged by a single operator within the crane’s width.
Maximum capacity for the crane is 45 t, and the main boom is 34 m. The crane’s design makes it equally well-suited to outdoor or indoor lifting. The first was delivered to rental company M.J. van Riel of the Netherlands and there have been other deliveries to Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Power for the crane comes from a six cylinder 330 kW diesel engine, and maximum travel speed is 80 km/h. The hoist has 160 m of 16 mm rope and a single line pull of 44.4 kN. No additional counterweight is required, as the GCK3045 is able to travel with its full complement within 12 t per axle.
Neil Hollingshead, global product manager for all-terrain cranes and rough-terrain cranes, said the GCK3045 was a great example of how innovative design translates to time and cost savings on the job.
“With the GCK3045, it’s easy to see how the design helps users get an advantage,” he said. “The engine is mounted in superstructure and acts as counterweight, so no additional weight needs to be carried to the job. There’s also a choice of five outrigger settings for lift capabilities even in very small spaces, and the outriggers can be set asymmetrically for even greater flexibility. By using a twist jib instead of the traditional swing-style jib, the GCK3045 can rig additional reach capability where other cranes can not.”
