Manitowoc shows Grove, Manitowoc, National, Potain at M&T Expo

Manitowoc displayed several cranes from its Grove, Manitowoc, National Crane and Potain product lines at the upcoming M&T Expo in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Scheduled from June 2-6, 2009, M&T is the premier construction equipment tradeshow in South America.

Manitowoc had a total of 1,157 m2 of space at the trade event spread across Booth #C10, Booth #X226 and Booth #V105 Kyle Nape, vice president and general manager, Latin America, says that Manitowoc is committed to expanding its involvement in South America.

“Since the last M&T Expo three years ago, Manitowoc has increased its product offering for the South American market, as well as its local presence,” he said. “We not only have two new models of National Cranes that we’re distributing here, but we’ve also expanded our Manitowoc Crane Care facility for the assembly of National cranes as well as our EnCORE facility for re-building parts and machines. We also maintain an ample spare parts inventory.”

At the show were two National Crane boom trucks mounted on local chassis, which Manitowoc recently began assembling and distributing in South America.

One crane was a National Crane 1400A, which has a 29.9 t maximum capacity. It comes with either a four- or a five-section boom, and the maximum extension is 38.7 m. Maximum tip height is 52.1 m. The crane’s hydraulic system uses pressure compensated control valves with a load-sensing variable displacement piston pump for smoother operation and reduced maintenance. It is mounted on a Ford truck chassis. Visitors were  able to see the National Crane 1800 mounted on a Scania chassis. It is the largest boom truck in the company’s product line. The 1800 has a maximum capacity of 36.3 t. Its ‘H’ style outriggers provide superior stability for a wide range of applications. Maximum boom extension is 43.3 m and maximum tip height is 53.6 m.

The company showed cranes from the Grove all-terrain crane and rough-terrain crane lines. The GMK7450, the largest mobile crane from Manitowoc, is one of two all-terrain cranes from the company at M&T. It has a 450 t capacity and a main boom of 60 m. The other Grove all-terrain crane is the GMK6220-L which has a 220 t capacity and an impressive 72 m boom. From the Grove rough-terrain crane line there is the RT530E-2, a 30 t capacity crane with a 29 m boom.

A Manitowoc crawler crane was also  shown – the Model 14000, a 200 t capacity crane and 86 m boom. The crane is perfect for a range of applications and has already enjoyed solid sales around the world since its launch in 2007.

Manitowoc also featured a Potain crane, the Igo 36 self-erecting crane. The Igo 36 has a 4 t capacity and a 32 m working radius. Maximum hook height is 31 m, with the jib at 20 degrees. The crane is equipped with a standard wireless operating remote that helps operators be more efficient and accurate on a job site. The Igo 36 has a very small footprint – 4 m x 4 m – making it ideal for jobs with limited space.
