Andreas Schwer, senior vice president of innovation and global engineering, said the introduction of three new mobile crane concepts reflects Manitowoc’s continuing commitment to innovation. “Other companies have used trade shows to introduce one or even two new mobile crane concepts, but I think to introduce three mobile crane platforms shows just how committed Manitowoc is to innovation,” he said. “In recent years we’ve announced cranes like the GTK1100 or the Model 31000 crawler crane. Even though these three new mobile cranes are smaller, they are just as important. They show that Manitowoc is continuing to work with its customers to understand the wide ranging and differing needs of the industry and to create solutions that offer a competitive advantage.” The three new cranes are the GCK3045, the GSK55 and the TMC540. Each has a unique set of features and benefits that give customers capabilities not available with other cranes. They are ideally suited to the European market and full Manitowoc Crane Care support for each model is already in place. GCK3045 The GCK3045 is a mobile city crane, produced in partnership with Kobelco, with a ‘boom down’ and single cab design. In Europe, the crane is exclusively available through the Manitowoc network. With a series of unique features and benefits, the GCK3045 opens up new applications for customers. It has a 45 t capacity and 34 m boom, but is able to access the tightest job sites and industrial locations with its compact shape. Neil Hollingshead, global product for all-terrain cranes and rough-terrain cranes, said the crane’s compact dimensions present new potential applications. “Because of the crane’s excellent maneuverability, it can get into areas that other cranes can’t,” he said. “So it is perfect for tight streets in city centers or indoors at industrial locations or in places like refineries. It has versatility that larger cranes are not able to offer, and there is a real emphasis on making the job as easy and comfortable for the operator as possible.” GSK55 The GSK55 is a new and unique concept combining lift ability from a Grove all-terrain crane with the mobility of a standard on-road truck. The crane marries together the power of Grove’s 55 t capacity GMK3055 all-terrain crane with a custom-built truck chassis, and customers then purchase or use an existing tractor of their own to provide mobility. Michael Preikschas, senior regional product manager at Manitowoc, said the GSK55 was an excellent alternative for those looking for all-terrain crane performance at a lower cost. “Many of our customers want the lift power of our all-terrain cranes but don’t necessarily need the off-road capability, so this is a perfect solution for them,” he said. “They get patented features from the crane including MEGAFORM boom shaping and TWIN-LOCK pinning for best-in-class lift performance, but they also get faster road transport than a standard all-terrain crane at a more cost-effective price.” TMC540 The third new crane is the TMC540, a truck-mounted crane that combines proven technology from Grove’s upperworks with a chassis from Scania. The crane sets new standards in terms of ease of use and lower fuel costs and like the GSK55, it offers lower operating costs. Maximum capacity for the TMC540 is 40 t and it features a 31 m boom. Ruben Olivas, global product manager for truck cranes, boom trucks and industrial cranes, said the TMC540 combines Manitowoc quality with proven savings in operating costs. “We wanted to make the TMC540 as cost-effective as possible without losing any of the quality customers expect from a Manitowoc product,” he said. “So we opted for the Scania carrier which is one of the best on the market but equally important, it is supported with a strong dealer network and is well-known for ease of maintenance. Because the TMC540 transports so easily, customers can cover several job sites in one day. And our research shows they can generate fuel savings of up to 60 percent compared with similar capacity cranes.” Deliveries of all three new cranes begin later this year and further details are available from the Manitowoc dealer network or direct from the company.
