Four Potain tower cranes are at the heart of construction on the Saigon Pearl development in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. All four are MC 175 B cranes with two belonging to contractor Song Da Corporation and the remaining two on lease from rental company Vinamac.

All of the cranes are working with a variety of jib lengths up to 60 m and at heights under hook of up to 150 m. The Saigon Pearl project comprises eight residential buildings reaching 37 stories – 135 m – tall. In addition, there are two office buildings and a 40,000 m2 retail and recreational facility. Upon completion in 2009, the project will be the largest residential project in Vietnam.

Noel Brennan, Potain’s sales director for Asia-Pacific, says the appearance of Potain on a project as prestigious as Saigon Pearl demonstrates the brand’s market leadership in the region.

“Potain has a strong history in this region but recent years have seen us take our presence to another level. We have a new, industry-leading factory in China and stronger support than ever before,” he says. “The appearance of Potain on this job reflects not only the quality of the product but also excellent work our dealer Minh Chi Co is doing in supporting the products.”

Phase 1 of Saigon Pearl is almost complete and features two of the MC 175 B cranes on rental from Vinamac. They are working for main contractor Cofico, which itself is working in partnership with French contracting giant Bouygues. The JV is building Ruby Tower 1 and Ruby Tower 2 on the project, two 37 story residential towers. Once these are complete, Cofico is expected to transfer the two cranes to Phase 3 of the project, which will include two office towers and a shopping mall. It is scheduled to complete in 2009.

The other two cranes are working for Song Da Corporation on Phase 2 of Saigon Pearl which will complete this year. It comprises the Topaz Towers (3 & 4) and Sapphire Towers (5 & 6). All are 37 stories tall and will be used for retail and leisure purposes.
