Potain produces largest crane in MDT range
Manitowoc has launched the Potain MDT 268, the largest crane in its redesigned MDT range. The crane first appeared at CONEXPO 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. It has a longer jib and numerous features to simplify and speed up the erection and dismantle process. The crane is available in a J10 version with a 10 t maximum capacity and a J12 version with a 12 t maximum capacity.
The MDT 268 is a topless crane that offers contractors greater space utilization on sites where multiple cranes are working or where height restrictions are an issue. The jib can also be erected section by section on tight jobsites where space is limited. David Havard, global product manager for Potain, said the MDT 268 provides flexibility on a wide range of jobsites.
“The MDT 268 offers customers enhanced performance and will set new standards for performance,” he said. “It is well suited to city center construction. And because there are two versions with a variety of configurations, the crane can be tailored to a range of projects.”
Both versions of the MDT 268 have a 65 m jib. The J10 version can pick 3 t at the jib end and the J12 version is able to pick 2.9 t. The crane can be configured with shorter jib options that increase lifting capacity. With a 25 m jib the J10 picks 9.5 t at jib end and the J12 picks 9.3 t.
The crane uses 2 m x 2 m mast sections and offers a maximum free-standing height of 70 m when mounted on fixing angles or a maximum height of 75 m when mounted on a chassis.
Hoist options are available for both versions of the crane. The J10 version comes with either the 50 LVF 25 Optima winch or the 75 LVF 25 Optima winch. The 50 LVF 25 Optima winch offers hoist speeds of up to 96 m/min with a 1.25 t load. The 75 LVF 25 Optima can reach speeds of up to 110 m/min with the same load.
The J12 version has three hoist options: the 50 LVF 30 Optima, the 75 LVF 30 Optima and the 100 LVF 30 Optima. The 50 LVF 30 Optima offers hoist speeds of up to 82 m/min with a 1.5 t load; the 75 LVF 30 Optima has hoist speeds of up to 116 m/min with 1.5 t on the hook; and the 100 LVF 30 Optima has hoist speeds of up to 162 m/min with a 1.5 t load.
LVF Optima hoists offer productivity gains by optimizing the hoist speed in relation to the load on the hook. The hoists also offer cost savings because smaller generator sets can be used compared to cranes equipped with conventional hoist winches.
