National’s ENVI joins the Scott Powerline fleet

US crane rental firm, Scott Powerline and Utility Equipment, has taken delivery of one of National Crane’s ENVI (690EU) models – the world’s first environmentally-friendly boom truck. The ENVI is the only boom truck in the industry that runs on biodegradable diesel and uses vegetable-based oil in its hydraulic system.

The ENVI is a great benefit to companies working in environmentally sensitive locations, but is also a great all-around crane, able to work just as efficiently as other boom trucks, as Dillard Winn, fleet manager at Scott Powerline, points out.

“The ENVI’s versatility is of enormous benefit to utility companies, as is the quality and peace of mind that comes with any National boom truck,” he said. “It operates as efficiently as any of our other boom trucks in everyday applications, but has the added advantage in that it is equipped to enter sensitive locations at any time – where a standard boom truck running on ordinary hydraulic oil may be denied access.”

Jeff Johnson, chief operating officer at Scott Powerline, agrees that buying a National product – and the ENVI in particular – offers numerous advantages.

“The 600 series range of machines is perfect for utility work, but on occasions in the past, we have had to change the oil in order to work in certain locations, but the ENVI eliminates this issue entirely,” he said. “The ENVI has been performing well since delivery and we have the security of knowing that Manitowoc Crane CARE’s service technicians are on standby to help out at any time. Their parts and product support is second to none, even for a machine as unique as this.” The new ENVI is currently working for contractor MasTec, helping install 4.5 t (5 USt) concrete power line poles along 25.1 km (15.6 miles) of road in the city of Terrell, near Dallas, Texas.

The ENVI is based on the popular 690E unit and incorporates the same specifications – it has a maximum capacity of 18 t (20 USt), a 28 m (90 ft) four-section boom, 14 m (45 ft) two-section jib, and a maximum tip height of 44 m (144 ft). It also has the same additional features, including adjustable swing speed, internal anti-two-block, high performance planetary winch, and self-lubricating "Easy Glide" wear pads.

Scott Powerline has 40 employees operating out of two facilities, located in Monroe, Louisiana and Lake City, Georgia, US. The ENVI joins Scott’s existing fleet of 90 cranes, over 40% of which are National boom-trucks, made up of series 800D, 900A, 1100, 1400, 1400H, and 1500 cranes.
