German company Schacke has purchased the first Manitowoc Model 12000 crawler
crane to arrive in Europe. The new crane was sold with the support of MCG
dealer, KranAgentur Werner, based in Zweibrücken, Germany.
In addition to being the first Model 12000 in Europe, the new model is also
the first Manitowoc Crane Group product in Duisburg-based Schacke’s 12-unit
crane fleet. The company will use the 110 t (120 USt) crawler primarily for
dockside pick and carry lifts, cargo handling, and barge loading and unloading
at Duisburg’s harbor on the river Rhine.
To commemorate this European first, a number of personnel from Schacke,
KranAgentur Werner, and Manitowoc Crane Group gathered at the Schacke site at
Duisburg harbor, the day the crane arrived.
Speaking at the event, Frank Schacke, general manager at Schacke, said he was
delighted to take delivery of the first Model 12000 in Europe.
“It is an honor to be the first European crane company to really test the
capability of the Model 12000,” he said. “We needed to buy a small crawler
crane with specific technical criteria, and Manitowoc crawlers have an
excellent reputation. The Model 12000 more than fit the bill. Its fast-turning
slewing drive and hoists, combined with a very strong line pull, make it
excellent for the work our company does. Although it can work at high speeds,
we have found the crane’s control system works very well at low speeds also.”
Volker Krautwig, sales manager for Central Europe at Manitowoc Crane Group, is
convinced the Model 12000 has great potential in the European market.
“The market for crawler cranes is busy in Europe right now, and I am certain
this will be the first of many Model 12000 sales,” Krautwig said. “The
Manitowoc range of crawler cranes offers a model to suit almost any
application. With the support offered by Manitowoc Crane CARE and from our
sales agent KranAgentur Werner we are very optimistic about our future.”
The Model 12000 crane can be equipped with a maximum main boom of 70 m (230
ft). Optional fixed and luffing jib attachments bring the boom’s reach up to
94 m (310 ft). The crane also has a 247 kW (332 hp) six-cylinder diesel
engine, full-flow hydraulic control system, 11 t (12.1 USt) rated line pull,
and can accommodate up to 34 t (35 USt) of counterweight. The Model 12000 can
also be configured with a concrete bucket or clamshell attachment for
material-handling tasks as well as a hydraulic hammer for pile-driving duties.
Schacke operates three business lines – used cranes sales, crane rental, and
harbor lifting through its two companies: Heinrich Schacke GmbH & Co, and Leo
Schwergutumschlag GmbH.
