Steve Brown: 1966-2006
Founding partner of SE10 Creative, dies aged 39

Steve Brown, founding partner of SE10
It is with deepest regret SE10 Creative announces the passing on March 16 of Steve Brown, one of its directors and founding partners, aged 39. Having fought a long battle with cancer after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in early 2004, Steve will be best remembered for his passion for the construction equipment business and his desire to provide the very best service to both clients and journalists alike. Throughout his career Steve remained a journalist at heart, and his fine writing style and sharp sense of humour made him popular in both journalistic and industry circles. He spent over 10 years in the construction equipment press starting as an assistant editor on Cranes Today, a UK trade journal published by Wilmington Media. From there he moved to Executive Hire News, eventually becoming editor, before heading to the US at the end of 1997 to satisfy his long-held ambition to live and work in North America. There he joined Cygnus Business Media’s title Equipment Today where he enjoyed two and a half years of service - and where he also met Mary Schmid: who would later become his wife. In 2000 he returned to the UK as editor of D&Ri, one of KHL Group’s construction titles, and was based at the company’s East Sussex headquarters – but it was only a brief visit: by 2001 he had returned to the US to open KHL’s first North American office. During this second spell in North America he married Mary, and settled in Milwaukee. The year 2002 saw Steve take his next step in the industry and realize a long-term goal to establish his own public relations and marketing consultancy. Towards the end of 2002 SE10 Creative was formed and today is the success Steve always hoped it would be. The company has offices in the UK and US and represents leading manufacturers, including Manitowoc Crane Group, Volvo Construction Equipment, Metso Minerals and Sandvik Tamrock. He is survived by his wife, Mary and their three year old son Ray, to whom we offer our deepest sympathies. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name may be made to either:
