New Five-Axle Grove All-Terrain for 2006

The Grove GMK5220 (the GMK5275 in the US)
The GMK5220 (the GMK5275 in the US) is the latest addition to Grove’s range of all-terrain cranes. Rated at 220 t (275 USt) and mounted on five axles, the GMK5220 has a lift capacity of 14 t (15.4 USt) at its maximum boom point of 68 m (223 ft) and at a radius of 20 m (65.6 ft). The seven-section boom features Grove’s TWIN-LOCK pinning system and takes only 460 seconds to fully erect. There is a 12 m - 21 m (39 ft - 69 ft) bi-fold luffing swingaway, which can accommodate up to two 8 m (26.2 ft) inserts to provide a maximum tip height of 108 m (354.3 ft). The jib can be hydraulically offset between 5 - 40 degrees using controls in the crane cab. The GMK5220 has one of the strongest lifting charts in its class with a 14 t (15.4 USt) capacity on its fully-extended boom. The GMK5220’s excellent capacity is the result of the newly enhanced MEGAFORM boom profile and further engineering design improvements. The new design features a stronger, lighter carrier incorporating a new hydraulic-electronic steering system. This new “steer by wire” system also reduces tire wear and improves drive quality. When combined with the powerful 420 kW (563 hp) Mercedes engine and Allison transmission, the GMK5220 offers the strongest and best performing carrier in its class. The GMK5220 also includes Grove’s patented MEGATRAK independent suspension and has an ECOS operating system with an EKS 5 full graphic load-monitoring system. Glen Tellock, president and general manager of Manitowoc Crane Group, said he has high hopes for the new all-terrain crane. “Grove’s all-terrains are second to none and this latest GMK is truly one of the strongest in its class. It also offers a greater range of configurations – a result of significant end user input into the engineering of this crane,” Tellock said. “The global market for all-terrains is very strong at present, and there is significant demand for larger cranes. With Grove’s reputation in the industry continuing to grow, I’m certain the GMK5220 will soon take its place as the market leader in its class.” About the Manitowoc Company
