There can be few places in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region where
users know more about rough-terrain cranes than Italy. The country is the
second largest rough-terrain market in the world and home to some big admirers
of rugged lifters. That’s why the decision of Toto Group to invest in six
Grove rough-terrains has been particularly well-received at the Manitowoc
Crane Group offices in Italy.
“We’re delighted that a company as prestigious as Toto Group has added Grove
RTs to its extensive crane fleet,” says Diego Borgna, Manitowoc Crane Group’s
area director for Southern Europe. “Toto is a company that makes careful
consideration before buying any type of machinery, so securing these Grove
deliveries is a real endorsement of the quality of our product.”
Toto Group is one of Italy’s leading public works contractors with around 700
employees. The company specializes in the construction of roads, viaducts,
tunnels, railways and highway concessions and operates a wide range of lifting
equipment to help with its numerous projects. The Grove RT units it has added
to its fleet are two 30 t (30 USt) RT530E models and four 45 t (50 USt) RT650E
cranes. All have been employed on a variety of projects since delivery and all
are performing well, according to Paolo Toto, a member of the board of
directors at Toto Group.
“We like Grove rough-terrains because they can get in where other lifting
equipment can’t – even other rough-terrains,” he says. “They’re really great
workers too. We have an excellent reputation with our clients for completing
our projects on time and on budget, so we ask a lot of our Grove cranes – and
they always deliver. And they’re stronger too. We spent a long time assessing
the different options in the lifting market and the Grove machines offered the
very best performance for the very best price.”
The RT530E has a full power boom which can extend to 29 m (95 ft) while
maximum tip height is 31.2 m (102 ft) with further reach attained through
either a 7.9 m (26 ft) swingaway or a 7.9 m – 13.7 m (26 - 45 ft) telescopic
swingaway. The RT650E, meanwhile, has a 32 m (110 ft) main boom with a maximum
tip height of 49 m (161 ft) achieved with the addition of an 8.8 – 15.5 m (29
– 51 ft) telescopic swingaway.
