Grove announced at bauma 2007 it will launch the GMK5110-1, a new all-terrain which will reinforce the company’s market-leading position in the 100 t class. The five-axle crane has a 110 t maximum capacity and shares many features with the company’s other recently-launched five-axle crane, the GMK5130-2.

The crane has a five-section 51 m boom with MEGAFORM shaping for greater rigidity and Grove’s patented TWIN-LOCK boom pinning system. An 11/18 m swingaway jib offers additional reach. There are two 8 m inserts to boost reach up to a maximum of 85 m. As with all Grove cranes, the jib may be offset – even under load – via controls in the crane’s cab.

The crane will follow in the footsteps of the GMK5100, one of the most successful five-axle all-terrain cranes of all time. Frans Vanwinkel, vice president of sales and marketing for Manitowoc Crane Group in EMEA, said Grove was building on its reputation.

“Grove’s leadership in the five-axle all-terrain crane category is built around strength, reliability and productivity,” he said. “We have a number of customers who have built their fleets around the returns they enjoyed from the GMK5100. So we are expecting great things from the GMK5110-1. Initial market response for the crane has reassured us the crane will be a success.”

The new crane fits between Grove’s 100 t GMK5095 and the 130 t GMK5130-2 on the product range. Like both these cranes, one of the 5110-1’s best assets is its strong load chart. Also featured on the GMK5110-1 is the carrier cab, launched last year, which offers improved functionality, ergonomics, and comfort.

Control is managed by Grove’s ECOS system which is even extended to the carrier cab. As expected, there are a range of other familiar features on the crane. The independent MEGATRAK suspension, which offers better maneuverability, and the EKS 5 Light load-monitoring system are among those additional features.

Deliveries of the GMK5110-1 will begin in early 2008.
