New Grove crane to make impression at bauma
Grove will unveil a new five-axle all-terrain crane, the GMK5095, at bauma
2007. This latest Grove builds on the company’s strong position in the
five-axle class. It is the second crane to feature the new ergonomic carrier
cab unveiled last year.
The GMK5095 has a maximum capacity of 100 t
and a 60 m seven-section main boom. The crane features Grove’s patented
MEGAFORM boom and TWIN-LOCK pinning system. Tip heights of up to 83 m are
available with the use of a hydraulic luffing bi-fold swingaway. Other
features include counterweight options up to 27 t, MEGATRAK suspension,
all-wheel steer, and Grove’s ECOS control system.
Philippe
Cohet, executive vice president of Manitowoc Crane Group EMEA, says the
GMK5095 will benefit from the growing popularity of Grove cranes.
“The
GMK5095 is the latest Grove to offer long reach combined with an excellent
load chart,” he said. “Customer feedback drives our product development and
response from the market already means the GMK5095 is a success. As Grove’s
reputation grows, so the market feedback grows and we are able to refine our
new models. The GMK5095 is a perfect example of this process at work.”
With
its 60 m boom, the GMK5095 is well suited to applications that require lifts
over 50 m ¬– and especially the erection of Potain tower cranes. As with many
Grove all-terrain cranes, users can operate the GMK5095 as either a ‘Taxi’
crane for mobility or a ‘Maxi’ crane for larger lifts.
In
‘Taxi’ mode, the crane has axle weights below 12 t, in line with roading laws
in many countries. In this mode, the crane carries 14 t of counterweight and a
10/17 m swingaway jib when fitted with 16.00 R25 tires.
Production of
the new crane will begin in autumn 2007. MCG’s mobile crane factory in
Wilhelmshaven, Germany, is producing the GMK5095. There are orders for several
units.
